Posted on November 20th, 2008
Grand Targhee Resort is opening the Nordic track on Saturday.  ·        Nordic day trail passes $6 a day until we get a little more snow. Purchase at Activities or Ski School
·        Nordic season passes $105. Purchase at Activities
·        Downhill season passes holders get to ski the track for free. They must have their passes with them.
·        The majority of the track is excellent. The first 1km of the track is modified and may share part of the downhill cat track until we get more snow. People also need to be careful at a couple of the creek crossings. Check with Ski School for more info. Â
·        We will not set the classic track until we get a little more snow. Current skate conditions are good.Â
There are SWEET LODGING DEALS going on for groups & individuals starting Friday night. If any teams are interested in booking a room at the hill or in our condos in the valley they should email group sales manager John Morgan at jmorgan@grandtarghee.com or call him at 307-353-2300 x1311.   Individuals looking for deals can call our reservations line at 1-800-Targhee.
Thanks for spreading the word and please let me know if you have any questions. Our marketing department will send out a more official word but I wanted to let you all know it was indeed happening. I will go on the track tomorrow and send you an update about conditions.Â
Regards,
Erica D. Linnell

Swix, Fischer, Idaho Nordic Educate the Masses
Posted on December 19th, 2006
The 2006 Swix Wax and On-Snow Technique clinic at Bogus Basin had a record number of participants.?Ǭ† The clinic was presented by Swix, Fischer Skis and the Idaho Nordic Ski Club.?Ǭ† Saturday included a morning session explaining snow classification, forecasting tips and practical glide wax application.?Ǭ† The afternoon focused on skating technique with abilities ranging from beginners to advanced master racers.?Ǭ† Sunday followed the same format as Saturday except the focus was on kick wax and klister application in morning, then an on-snow classic clinic.?Ǭ† There were 80 participants on Saturday and 30 on Sunday.?Ǭ† In total there was 9 hours of wax and ski technique instruction led by Swix Tech Team members Joe and Eric Jensen.

Idaho Wax Checklist: Swix Tech Tip 2
Pole Sizing Formula:?Ǭ† Multiply your height in inches by 2.54 to get your centimeter height.
(i.e.:?Ǭ† 5?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢8?¢‚Ǩ? = 68 inches multiplied by 2.54 = 172.7 centimeters)
?¢‚Ǩ¬¢?Ǭ†Skating pole length =?Ǭ†?Ǭ† .90?Ǭ† x?Ǭ† Skier?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Height?Ǭ† Cm
?¢‚Ǩ¬¢?Ǭ†Classic pole length -?Ǭ†?Ǭ†?Ǭ†?Ǭ† .85?Ǭ† x?Ǭ† Skier?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Height Cm
So our 5?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢8?¢‚Ǩ? skier would use 155cm skate poles and 146cm classic poles.?Ǭ† Poles are sold in 2.5cm increments so just round to the closest size.?Ǭ†
Skiers have a tendency to use poles that too long.?Ǭ† Using poles that are too long creates a myriad of technique problems and it also fatigues your arms prematurely.
