Look for the other nordic looking folks - (tall, blond, vikingesque)

Bring money to pitch in for gas - don’t be a freeloader.

TECHNICAL RACE NOTES
Swix Technical Team tested the length of the course. Snow temperatures at race time at Galena were -10C, Prairie Creek -10C, SNRA -10C. The snow is acting very aggressive due to the sharp new crystals. Durability and hardness of glide wax will be key factors in waxing. Look for the Tech team on the trails and at the shops for advice and updates.

Good Luck everyone! Have a great Tour!

IN Training in town tonight!

Posted on January 30th, 2008

January 30, 2008 - 5:45 pm to 6:45 pm

Southeast Boise Speeds – IN Training

Instead going to Bogus and slogging through knee deep powder(getting tired and feeling slow) we are going to hold training in town tonight.  This will be a short workout to get some speed heading into the BMT!

We will start at 5:45pm – ski a short warm-up, do some 15 to 45 second speeds and warm-down.

Rock skis advised.

Location: North Entrance to Simplot Soccer Complex, Columbia Village on Lake Forest Drive.

BMT Waxing Advice

Swix is going to start testing on Thursday once the Groomers have finished and we can get an idea of the moisture content on the groomed trail.  Right now we are forecasting the trail to be dry, cold, wind-blown and soft.  We are advising people to start sinking CH4 or LF4 into their race skis to harden up the base.  Apply CH4/LF4 at 150C, running the iron tip to tail 3 times.  Let cool for 15 minutes at room temperature and repeat the ironing/cooling cycle 3 times to insure good wax penetration.  To help the skis take on the wax make sure they are at room temperature before starting the waxing cycle.  Run your iron in a steady motion to avoid overheating the base.  This wax will provide a good prep for the race wax, or if LF4 called out as the race wax, you only have to scrape and brush to be race ready.  We will post the wax rec on idahonordic.com by Thursday evening.

This morning at 7am it was negative one at Galena and the beer at Grumpy’s was a perfect 36.

January 26, 2008 -

Event: Bogus Challenge, Bogus Basin
Saturday, January 26th

Forecast from NOAA as of 1/24 at 4:30pm:
Friday Night: A 20 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 22. Breezy, with a south southeast wind between 13 and 21 mph
Saturday: A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 32. Breezy, with a south southeast wind between 21 and 24 mph

Ski Selection: Medium/Firm flex ski.

Base Prep: If skis bases are dirty, clean skis with Swix CH10.  Scrape and brush using Course Bronze Brush (T158) or Fine Steel brush (T192).
 Glide Wax
Race Wax: Brush skis with Swix Med Bronze Brush (T162) tip to tail 10 repetitions.

Kid’s/ Junior Racers:  A good choice for fast skis and your parents wallet is Swix CH6.  If your parent’s spoil you then Swix LF6 is even a better choice.
Apply Swix HF6 or even better HF6BD (BD will help with the wind blown abrasive snow – although the temps are rising we have had very cold temps and snow will be dry and abrasive). Iron in, 5 seconds tip to tail x 3 repetitions.   Cool ski 5 minutes and then scrape and brush with Swix Med Course Brush (T162) x 10 repetitions tip to tail followed by the Swix Blue Nylon Polish Brush (T160) x 10 repetitions tip to tail.
Structure: Swix Super Riller T401 with .25mm linear rill. Apply rill after you have finished scraping and brushing.
 Kick Wax
N/A
They call it the “Challenge” for a reason.  If you are not up to it, just remember the Russians will be here in March to kick your soft American arse.

The Equinox Ski Challenge: How Far Can You Go?

Posted on January 15th, 2008

March 22, 2008 to March 23, 2008

Event Name: Equinox Ski Challenge
Date: March 22-23, 2008
Location: Rendezvous Ski Trails, West Yellowstone, MT.
Event Website: www.equinoxskichallenge.com
Race Type: 6, 12, or 24 Hour / mass start / freestyle
Contact: Sam Newbury
Phone: (406)-209-3533
Email: equinoxskichallenge@gmail.com

2nd annual Equinox Ski Challenge is a 24 Hour nordic ski
race to be held on March 22nd and 23rd at the Rendezvous Ski Trails in
West Yellowstone, MT.  There will be a 6 Hour and 12 Hour divisions in
conjunction with the headlining 24 Hour race.  All categories are open
to both relay teams and soloists.  This year the 9 kilometer course
will be lit by a nearly full moon if the skies are clear, (headlamps
still recommended)!  Last year we saw multiple 24 Hour soloists exceed
300km and a team at just under 400km on the challenging loops.  To
avoid skiing on refrozen chop, we have two courses set up and will
switch to the fresh course about 12 hours into the race.

An aspect of this event that is equally important to challenging the
participants is supporting local organizations that are keeping our
communities mentally and physically healthy.  The Equinox Ski
Challenge will again do so by raising funds for the West Yellowstone
Ski Education Foundation, a ski advocacy group, and for Manaia Youth
Programs, a youth leadership and empowerment program serving Gallatin
and Park counties in Montana.  Participants are encouraged to bring
food donations for the West Yellowstone Food Bank.  Those donating
food will be entered into a special raffle.

The festivities will include a costume contest to be judged at the
start of the race, a potluck with beverages on Saturday evening, and
an all night bonfire near the start/finish line.  Complete details and
registration forms are available at www.equinoxskichallenge.com.
Volunteers are warmly welcomed as well.

How far can you go?
