TRAIL RANGERS HOST RIDGE TO RIVERS TRAIL AWARENESS RUN JUNE 6TH; REGISTRATION LIMITED TO 125 PARTICIPANTS

The Ridge to Rivers program’s volunteer Trail Rangers are hosting the second annual Trail Awareness Run aimed at improving knowledge of trail etiquette on the Ridge to Rivers trail system.  The run will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 6th in Camels Back Park. Their will be a 7.75-mile loop running course following these trails:  Red Fox #36, Lower Hulls Gulch #29, Crestline #28, Kestrel #39A, or a 2.8-mile walk covering the following trails:  Red Fox #36, lower Kestral #39A, The Grove #38 and Gold Finch #35.

As members of the Trail Ranger program, ten volunteers patrol the Foothills on foot or on bike. Their goal is to educate trail users regarding Foothills policies and resource concerns, as well as provide general trail information.

The Trail Rangers hope that the race will help raise awareness of proper trail etiquette practices among all users.  “We’re trying to generate a better trail ethic in Boise, with more informed trail users of all types,” says Lead Trail Ranger Rich Gardunia.  Race participants will receive T-shirts with etiquette messages on them; race packets will also contain educational material.

There will be three aid stations along the race course.  Participation is limited to the first 125 registered individuals.  There will be no race-day registration.  Times will be recorded and published in the Boise Weekly.  All participants will receive a race T-shirt.  Cost is $15.00.

To download the Registration Form, see www.ridgetorivers.org or pick up a form at Bandanna Running, Shu’s Idaho Running Company, or Pulse Running in Meridian.  For more information, call 514-3756.

Nicole De Yong - America for Gold Fund

Posted on May 12th, 2009

Many of you have taken clinics from Nicole the past two years. Please read the letter below from Nicole:

May 7, 2009

Hello!

As you know, I have been pursuing cross country skiing for the past 3 years, living and training in Sun Valley, Idaho, in hopes of qualifying for the 2010 Winter Olympics. As individuals who have supported and encouraged me in the past, I am writing this letter in request for your support.

This past season was successful and put me one step closer toward my Olympic dream. After a frigid U.S. Nationals in Anchorage AK, I qualified to represent the U.S. Ski Team at the Pre-Olympic World Cups on the Olympic courses in Whistler, B.C. As a highlight, I acquired my first world cup points by placing 30th in the 15k Pursuit race! The season continued with top results on the U.S. Super Tour circuit and four top-ten results at U.S. National Championships.

I am excited to begin another year with new training plans, new training buddies, new goals and new experiences. This upcoming season is a very important one as the Olympics are just around the corner. In these next ten months, proper training, proper nutrition, proper medical needs and proper rest will all be very critical.

In my quest for sponsors I have applied to America for Gold, a non-profit organization that aims to provide financial assistance to athletes through need-based grants. They are devoted solely to raising funds to help support athletes training for the Summer and Winter Olympic Games. As part of the organizations application process, they require the athlete to find 10 donors to pledge support in my name. A minimum of $5/month or a one-time payment of $60/year is requested. If you feel like you are able to help at this time, it would be greatly appreciated!

Payments can be made one of two ways:

1) Online: www.americaforgold.org Please insert Nicole De Yong in the comment box to confirm that the donation will go towards my fund. Thank you! 2) Mail: You can fill out the attached Ez-Gift-Enrollment form and mail it to:

America for Gold Fund, Inc. 1837 S. Nevada Ave. #173, Colorado Springs, CO 80906

I am very motivated for this upcoming season and I will be sure to keep you posted on how it progresses! Thank you so much for your support!

Sincerely,

Nicole De Yong
