Swix Racing Service Preliminary Report
World Nordic Ski Championship
Swix / USA Athlete Success

Kikkan Randall wins Silver Medal!
LIBEREC, Czech Republic (Feb. 24) - Kikkan Randall (Anchorage) put her mark on an already historic Nordic Ski World Championships for the USA, taking silver Tuesday in the cross country sprint to garner the highest medal for a U.S. cross country skier at Worlds in history.

Kris Freeman places Fourth in 15km Classic!
LIBEREC, Czech Republic (Feb. 20) - Kris Freeman (Andover, NH) raced to an impressive fourth-place finish Friday at the 2009 FIS Nordic Ski World Championships. He came from behind, steadily improving his splits to finish 1.3 seconds off the podium. Andrus Veerpalu of Estonia won the men’s 15K classic race in 38:54.4 minutes. It matched his fourth-place finish in the same event at the 2003 World Championships in Val di Fiemme, Italy.

Nordic Combined: Lodwick Gold; Demong Silver!
LIBEREC, Czech Republic (Feb. 22) - In an historic day for the USA, Todd Lodwick (Steamboat Springs, CO) took his second World Championship gold and teammate Billy Demong (Vermontville, NY) took the bronze during the 2009 FIS Nordic Ski World Championships in Liberec. The USA is leading the medals count with three gold and a silver after eight of 20 events.

Lodwick and Demong’s performance marks the first time two U.S. nordic combined athletes have made the World Championship podium together. It was the second of four nordic combined events at the Championships, featuring  a single jump on the 100 meter hill and a 10K cross country race.“I think the most important thing about today, and probably the coolest, is that I am able to share this podium with another teammate,” Lodwick said. “I cannot believe I get to share this World Championship podium with a teammate.”

Nordic Combined: Lodwick Gold; Demong 5th!
LIBEREC, Czech Republic (Feb. 20) - American Todd Lodwick (Steamboat Springs, CO) laid down two lengthy jumps and led the cross country to win the gold during a mass start at the FIS Nordic Ski World Championships in Liberec Friday. Lodwick’s first career major event medal comes on the heels of teammate Johnny Spillane’s (Steamboat Springs, CO) gold in 2003 and Billy Demong’s (Vermontville, NY) silver in 2007.“Words cannot describe it. The biggest thing about my comeback was World Championships. It still hasn’t set in, but today I am the best in the world,” Lodwick said.
Following Lodwick, Teammate Billy Demong (Vermontville, NY) who was third in the cross country portion of the event, finished fifth overall.

Swix Racing Service Report
Boulder Mountain Tour & 2009 Special Olympic Games
Sun Valley, Idaho
Swix Sport USA Racing Service had a fantastic weekend of success in the Wood River Valley of Ketchum, Idaho as 5 of 6 podium winners in the Boulder Mountain Tour raced on Swix waxes. HF6BW covered by FC7 or the new FC78 Super Cera were the glide waxes of choice.

Following the Boulder Mountain Tour, Swix Racing Service set up a 6 station waxing tent for the 2009 Special Olympic Games at the Sun Valley Nordic Center. For five days Swix Sport USA offered waxing and ski preparation for all Olympic Games participants free of charge. The Swix Team supported by Swix enthusiasts from Boise, the Idaho Nordic Team and from the Wood River Valley chipped in and waxed skis daily. “It is very hard to put in words the feelings you have when these kids come in beaming with grins from ear to ear holding their medals and giving you the high-five for preparing their skis. Our success across the country this past weekend with race winners using Swix was impressive, but, I have to admit, my heart was in Sun Valley this weekend. These kids are just dynamite”, says Swix Racing Service Director, Kevin Sweeney.

A huge thanks goes out to the Swix Team, especially Swix Technical Representatives Kris Thoreson and Eric & Joe Jensen who organized a superb group of wax technicians to keep the skis flying out the door. “We were hot waxing and kick waxing for classic everyday for 8 hours with very few breaks. It was pretty neat when the kids and coaches came in to give us a pin from their respective country for waxing their skis. I’m proud of my Swix Team for volunteering their time for this. It was certainly extremely rewarding on all fronts”, says Sweeney.

Volunteers who jumped in to help included: Kris Thoreson, Eric Jensen, Joe Jensen, Bob Robideaux, Jim McClatchy, Karoline Droge, Chris Murphy, Al Pitt, Will Northrup, Raleigh Jensen, Drew Chilson, Barbra Wilson and John Phillips.Team Norway    RaceService
