Harren McCall House for Rent

Posted on January 15th, 2009

Dear Idaho Nordic Members,

My name is Pat Harren, and I’m a long time cross-country skier and Idaho Nordic member. In  1980 I built a log house near McCall, 1.5 miles north of Jug Mountain Ranch on Farm to Market Road. It is due west of Jughandle Mountain and sits on 5+acres, with lots of open fields nearby and is 6.5 miles from McCall. It has 3 bedrooms and 1 bath.  Since my family and I moved to Boise 5 years ago we get up there in the summer but infrequently other seasons, and I’ve decided to rent it out at $75. a night for a family, or individuals up to 4, then $20. each for over 4. Wood is the main heat source, with gas and electric back-ups, so I am looking for RESPONSIBLE folks who will care for the place. Beds and blankets are provided, but you will need your own sheets ( or sleeping bags) and towels. Wood is there, but some splitting of kindling may be necessary. It has a complete kitchen and a small library, lots of kids videos,  and no phone. I’ll be up there on January 23rd for the Ranch Race on the 24th, so anyone who would like to stay for $20. ,or at another time, please contact me at 338-5690 or patrickharren@me.com Thanks, Pat Harren

Idaho Nordic Van

Posted on January 13th, 2009

Idaho Nordic has acquired a van in the past week.  The purpose of the van is to reduce the total number of car trips to Bogus for our members and provide transportation to certain Nordic events.   Bogus Basin encourages carpooling for environmental as well as practical reasons (mountain parking spots are limited, especially on weekends!)Currently the van seats eight people, soon to be twelve with the addition of a backseat.  Our goal is to load the van every Wednesday evening and on some Weekend days; taking 5 to 11 cars off the road to Bogus.

Maintaining the van, purchasing gas and insurance all take funds. In order to be fair to the entire membership, making a contribution to offset the costs of owning and operating the van as well as Idaho Nordic membership are requirements to ride in the van.  We are working to streamline the process of making and tracking contributions toward van costs. Currently, prepayments can be made in cash or check made payable to Idaho Nordic to either IN President Joe Jensen or IN Treasurer Phil O’Bryan. Payments can also be made to the van driver prior to each ride.

Required contribution per ride (2009 ski season):
Bogus Basin Round Trip - $4.00 Contribution
Boise to Ketchum, McCall or Pocatello Round Trip - $20.00 Contribution

Since the van only seats 12 and we have over 100 members we understand that there will be instances that there will not be room in van for everyone that shows up.  We ask that you be patient and flexible as we are trying to what is best for the club, skiing and the environment. If we encounter a lack of seats priority will be given in the following order:
1) IN volunteers that maintain and drive the van.
2) Pre-paid riders.
3) IN members with correct change.

In order to volunteer to assist with cleaning and maintenance of the van program, please contact info@idahonordic.com.

Idaho Nordic is committed to continuing to provide the same excellent benefits and membership value that it always has. The van will not detract from other club activities nor will it impact membership dues structure. All Idaho Nordic members will continue to enjoy excellent value for their membership dues.

Note to Idaho Nordic Family Membership holders: minors who are listed as Idaho Nordic members on your family membership must be accompanied by an Idaho Nordic member parent and of the age to legally travel without a car seat or other restriction. Minors who meet these criteria will be subject to van maintenance fee and given lowest seating priority.
