Early Season Ski Reports

Posted on November 30th, 2007

Ketchum, Idaho:  Prairie Creek (north) to Galena
11/28/07:  Birkie crazed Idaho Nordic Member and Ketchum resident, Crist Cook: “Just got out on the Prairie to Galena stretch and it is buffed!  They got another 3 inches since we skied and it is buttered up.  There is only one small spot on that last hill that still has a few rocks showing otherwise I don’t think rock skis are required.  The forecast at Galena is for a 100% chance of snow tonight and tomorrow.  So it is on.”
11/29/07:  Bob Rosso – Elephants Perch : “The skiing is getting better every day, another couple of inches last night, full coverage now almost becoming difficult to find any gravel. No classic tracks yet still grooming with snowmobile and broom, but very good.  We are doing the XC demo day at Galena this Saturday.”

Anthony Lakes- Baker Oregon
11/30/07: Richard Knowles:   “I’ll have a good ten (10) Km open this weekend. Still snowing.”

Bogus Basin –
11/30/07: Peg Havlovick, Bogus Basin Nordic Director: “We rolled the road “Nordic Highway” yesterday - will repeat and do as much as has good coverage today! Ground is frozen hard and the new snow is nice, plenty cold - a bit thin when packed but we’re getting awful close! Check the bogus website by early afternoon for an update - if there is no news about Nordic, I’d call it good “rock skiing” for the weekend on the Highway, maybe two early sections of RedTail, maybe Sapper’s!”   **Note: the ski area will not be open, if you go you may not be allowed to ski – I am just giving you the report – I’m not telling you to go ski Bogus – EJ **

McCall Area – No reports, they are in their own world.

Boise- Eric Jensen
11/30/07: “The chipseal is being ground into the old asphalt on many of the usual routes, making the effort easier as the rollerski wheels glide a bit better. The down side is the asphalt is frozen so the pole tips tend to slip and can send you on your head.”… “Spending hours in the car to get in a few early km’s is not always the best training approach. If you do travel, the skiing in Ketchum is always good and trying out the new gear on Saturday Demo day is a bonus.”
